About Adonis

Adonis is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see if you're a match! Scroll through his pictures to see his cute video content! Adonis was brought in to Chicago Animal Care and Control as a stray back in mid-March, and he caught our eye soon after that. We would see him in his kennel or out in the yard and to be honest, the first words that popped into our mind were not "Greek God," and more along the lines of, "Jolly and jaunty"! It is hard to explain, but he has such a cute bouncy walk and way of moving, and he is always smiling; he was a ray of sunshine in a sad and gray place. We did not have space at Heartland when we first saw him, and thought he would surely get scooped up. Weeks passed and Adonis was still at CACC when construction was set to begin on the pavilion in which he was housed. CACC offered their volunteers the opportunity to foster dogs from that pavilion for the two days and nights it would take to finish the work. Adonis's guardian angel and president of the Adonis Fan Club, Olivia, took him home to her apartment on Lake Shore Drive. Adonis settled right in. Olivia did not want to bring him back to CACC, especially after seeing how wonderful he was outside of that place. Olivia reached out to us to ask if we would take him into our rescue, and she would be his foster. It was a win-win! We were able to get Adonis medically vetted, and are so happy he is now up for adoption! We know so much about him thanks to his foster mom, Olivia. She writes, "Adonis would be happy to be anyone's best friend! He loves everyone, always has a smile on his face, and is always happy. My favorite things about Adonis are his sploots (he is the king of splooting anywhere and everywhere), his snorts (he sounds like a pig sometimes), and his playful personality (he loves to play with all types of toys). While Adonis loves to play, he can also be a couch potato and loves to snuggle on the couch! Adonis is very well behaved. He is potty trained and has good manners. He knows his sit, shake, and down. Adonis also does not beg for food but of course enjoys any and all treats, which he takes very gently. He can be messy when he drinks water but I just have a towel under his water bowl. He doesn't jump up on me a whole lot but has a few times. He's gentle when he does it though. He is a little bit of a scaredy cat! He is scared of cars and scared of the elevator but he has been very brave and has definitely gotten more comfortable with the elevator. So far, I don't have anything negative to say about Adonis. Whoever adopts Adonis is one lucky person!" We hope you will ask about Adonis today! Adonis's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
