This 4-year-old Shih Tzu weighs just 12 pounds and is looking for a calm, adult-only home where he can settle in at his own pace and build trust slowly. Oreo Theodore came to us as a transfer from another shelter, and while change has been hard on him, we've already seen glimpses of the loyal companion hiding underneath his cautious exterior. He can be nervous in new situations and may react defensively when overwhelmed, so he will need an experienced adopter who understands dog body language and is committed to giving him patience, structure, and time to decompress. The good news? Oreo Theodore is very food motivated, and treats are the quickest way to his heart. Positive reinforcement, consistency, and a predictable routine will help him continue making progress and feeling safe. Once he trusts you, he enjoys companionship and the comfort of having his people nearby. Because of his sensitive nature, Oreo Theodore is seeking an adult-only home with no young children. He would do best in a quieter environment where expectations are low at first and where he can move forward at his own speed. We select the best applicant for each dog, based on the dog's needs.
