About Pumpkin

**ON STRAY HOLD -- NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION YET!** Hi! I am Pumpkin, a young, energetic and adorable tan & brown female Chihuahua. I came to the shelter totally frozen, scared and shaking. It was so difficult for my shelter family to see. However, the next day I started to come out of my shell. Once people are down on my level I will cautiously explore them and encourage their 1:1 attention. I am very scared of people at first - but once I have learned it's ok - I am super affectionate, playful and have no issue at all climbing in their lap and encourage them to love me. My personality is still becoming apparent - but from what my shelter family can see, I am cautious, scared and anxious at first. If I do not know you, or trust you, I freeze and shake out of nervousness. Once I am warmed up to you, I am a lover. I like to give you kisses and will play an enthusiastic game of fetch. Best tip: To get me to trust you, be patient. This can be accomplished by you sitting on the same level as me, letting me take my time to warm up and avoid quick, sudden movements toward me or above me. Those movements make me worry you might want to hurt me. Once I love and trust you - I will jump on your legs, just to remind you I am here, ready to play. I do suffer from separation anxiety - I will chew things, cry, whine and sometimes shake. It would be best that I am with a family who I can be with all the time and have very little away time apart. They'll also need to be patient, forgiving and not rush my process. I will be spayed when I am ready and I will soon be up to date on my age appropriate vaccines - bordetella, distemper and rabies. I will be tested for Heartworm, Erhlichlia, Lyme's and Anaplasma soon. I receive routine flea and tick preventatives, monthly as well as some well deserved pampering periodically: brushing, nail trims & ear cleaning. From what my shelter family knows, I have not been around small kids - I don't know how I would do. A lot of crazy, fast, energetic movement would likely scare me. Kids who understand boundaries and will abide by what I need is probably best. From what my shelter family knows, I have not been around cats so I do not know how I would do with them. I have not been with other dogs at the shelter - so this too remains to be unknown. I need a family that is caring, compassionate and loving. I want a family that is patient, willing to give me what I need: a warm bed, plenty of good food & clean water, and good ol' pets and love. I need a family who is consistent - and dedicated to train me, work with me, love and keep me for my entire life. My shelter family works tirelessly to ensure I and my friends go to the right family. If you feel that person is you, I'd love to meet you. Please submit an application if you'd like to be considered becoming my family!
