About Alex
Alex is a 10-month-old small Dachshund mix in Enterprise, AL, who’s working hard at gaining confidence. He isn’t aggressive—just shy and uncertain in new situations, especially with men. Alex thrives when he feels safe, and a gentle, patient adult will be key to his progress. Once he trusts you, his loyalty runs deep; he’s closely bonded with his foster mom and loves following her around. Crate training and house training are solid, with Alex using a dog door reliably. He still has an occasional accident if he’s very stressed, but these are less frequent as his confidence grows. The crate is his sanctuary, and he genuinely enjoys having it. Leash walking is still intimidating for him, so you will need to work slowly and reward small milestones. Because he’s a flight risk, a secure fenced yard is an absolute must. Alex cannot be placed as an only dog; he needs a confident, playful canine companion to guide and reassure him. He reads other dogs well, plays enthusiastically, and learns from their example. The outdoors is Alex’s happy place—he’d spend all day outside if he could, just being a dog and enjoying life. If you have the patience and another dog, you’ll help unlock the best in Alex.
