About Mochaparalyzed

Mocha is a 3½-year-old small standard dapple longhaired Dachshund living with hind end paralysis after a disc injury. IVDD ended her ability to walk, but she’s no longer in pain and faces the world with the calm determination that doxies are known for. She may improve with time, but it’s best to plan for her to stay a wheelchair dog who needs diapering and bladder expression. Mocha handles her care with patience and grace—she’s not leaking when kept on a careful schedule, and she enjoys toys and gentle companionship while on crate rest. Mocha gets along with gentle small dogs and greets new routines with curiosity. Her ideal adopter will understand her condition isn’t for everyone: it requires diligence, care, and the willingness to adapt a home to her special needs. She’s gentle, sweet, and will reward someone’s commitment with her loyalty and affectionate dappled snout. She’s looking for someone able to keep her clean, safe from sores and infection, and who’s ready to provide her with the full, happy life a disabled dog can have. Mocha is being fostered in Oak Ridge, NJ and meet & greets are available by appointment only. Give her a chance for the quality life she deserves. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Mochaparalyzed

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Dachshunds like Mocha typically do well in homes with a stable indoor environment, where they can feel secure and avoid too many stairs due to their long backs. A home willing to accommodate mobility needs is key, especially for a wheelchair dog.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Dachshunds enjoy outdoor time, but Mocha’s needs are different given her paralysis. She’ll benefit from supervised time in a safe, level outdoor area, tailored to her wheelchair and supervised by an attentive adopter.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Many Dachshunds can live with gentle older children, but because Mocha is paralyzed and needs consistent care, she’s best suited to a calm household where her special needs can be safely managed.
