About Lemon

Visitors are limited to approved applicants only. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in stopping by. We will be in touch once your application is approved to set up a visit. Adopt: lighthouseanimalshelter.org/adopt Foster: lighthouseanimalshelter.org/foster --- Lemon is a quiet, low-key companion with a sweet and sensitive soul. She may take a little time to warm up, but once she trusts you, she’s affectionate, snuggly, and loves being near her people. Lemon was previously adopted, but due to a change in her adopter’s circumstances, she is now looking for a new home. There are no issues with Lemon herself—this is simply a situation where her current family can no longer keep her. They are kindly keeping her in their care until the right forever home is found, and are happy to share more about her to help ensure a smooth transition. At home, Lemon is extremely well-mannered. She’s housebroken, doesn't need a crate, and has never chewed furniture or household items. She rarely barks—even when left alone—and has shown no destructive behaviors. In fact, the only time she ever howled a bit was in her first couple of months when no one was home, and even that stopped over time. Lemon has a gentle nature and gets along well with cats and has lived peacefully with two. She hasn't had a lot of off-leash interactions with other dogs, but has done well walking near them, and even lived with two dogs in a previous foster home. She may bark or pull if another dog barks at her on walks, likely due to nerves, but she generally keeps moving and responds well to guidance. Lemon walks nicely on a leash (slip lead recommended), rides well in the car, and enjoys quiet outdoor time—especially soaking up the sun or getting the zoomies in the backyard. She doesn’t have high energy, but she does love walks and adventures at her own pace. A fenced yard is a plus for her, but not a dealbreaker as long as her new family is cautious during the initial adjustment period. While she hasn’t lived with young children, she has interacted positively with them while on walks and is currently doing well around a 6-month-old baby in the family. Due to her nervous disposition, a home with older, respectful children or a family willing to take introductions slowly would be best. When guests come over, Lemon may initially be shy or a bit skittish, but she’s never aggressive and tends to approach with gentle curiosity. She doesn’t jump up on people and prefers to observe before joining in. --- We do not adopt on a first-come-first-serve basis, but rather by the best match between dog and family, although we will factor in the order of applications if there are equally good matches. Our adoption fee for adult dogs is $500 which covers the costs of vetting (spay, vaccinations, heartworm testing, preventatives while in our care, deworming and microchip) and any boarding or transport fees incurred in each dog's rescue. Senior dogs are $250.
