Meet Ogilvie ā a true survivor with a wild look and a strong survival instinct If youāve seen The Pitt, youāll understand how Ogilvie got his nameāhis untamed hair is a perfect match. But his story goes far deeper than appearances. Ogilvie came to us as a caregiver surrender from a feral colony in March 2026, estimated to be born in early spring of 2021. Before arriving, he endured more than any cat should. Untreated medical issues included severe ear infections, painful facial wounds from self-trauma, fractured canine teeth, and severe matting of his fur. He was quite the sight at first glance! Most notably, Ogilvie survived a significant gunshot injury to his right foreleg. The injury caused a fracture of the humerus (upper forelimb) and damage extending into the elbow joint, with multiple small ballistic fragments still present in and around the joint and surrounding soft tissue. Over time, the bone healed on its own with surprisingly minimal displacement, resulting in visible remodeling of the limb. Despite how severe this soundsāand looks on imagingāOgilvie is fully ambulatory and uses the leg. Currently, amputation is not recommended, and he gets around well on his own. His case is a powerful example of just how resilient cats can be. He also underwent treatment for other painful conditions, including a severe tail gland issue (āstud tailā) that eventually ruptured and required surgical repair. Through it all, Ogilvie has shown incredible strength. Today, Ogilvie is a different cat. When he first arrived, he was understandably overwhelmed and protective of his space. But as heās settled in and realized heās safe, his personality has really started to shine. He now enjoys exploring, observing, and even making a few feline acquaintances. While heās not overly affectionate with other cats, heās learning to coexist peacefully and would do well with calm companions. Ogilvie is a genuinely sweet boy who just needed time and security to come out of his shell. He would thrive in a home with older children who can engage him in play and respect his boundaries. Heās the kind of cat who will reward patience with companionshipāand watching him continue to grow is incredibly rewarding. He is FIV positive, but in a stable indoor home, the risk to other cats is non-existent. Like most FIV+ cats, he can live a long, happy life with routine care and love. Ogilvie has already overcome so much, including an injury that could have ended his life. Now heās ready for the next chapter: a home where he can finally relax, feel safe, and be appreciated for the strong, gentle soul he is. Could that home be yours?
