Jake had been living outside with only a small plastic doghouse and dirty blankets for shelter until a Good Samaritan noticed him and reached out as winter approached. When a volunteer checked, Jake was found in a filthy pen with little to no food or water, surrounded by empty Styrofoam containers. Though there were attempts to bring him inside during the cold, his owners declined, saying Jake had always lived outdoors. Facing an ice storm, his foster mom, Bethany, and her husband intervened, securing his freedom and giving him a second chance at life. With their dedication, Jake is now safe, warm, and thriving in foster care—already seen by a vet and heartworm negative! Bethany, Jake's foster and a dedicated trainer nearing the end of her two-year training program, provides both loving care and helpful insight into his development. Jake is a happy, social Norwich Terrier mix around 6–7 years old (though you’ll never guess it from his youthful energy) and weighs about 22 lbs. Professionally groomed and low-shedding, he’s proven to be easy to handle when it’s spa time. Jake’s personality shines everywhere he goes. He’s confident, outgoing, and makes everyone—from neighbors to kids to strangers—feel welcome with his body-wagging joy. He loves being part of his humans’ daily lives, whether hanging out in the yard, “assisting” at the computer, or joining in family adventures. While he’s energetic and lively, happy for walks and play sessions, he can relax nearby with a chew or toy when it’s downtime. Jake sometimes fancies himself a lap dog. Jake enjoys the company of other friendly, playful dogs and thrives with a canine buddy who matches his energy and size for those epic playdates. He is not a match for homes with cats, but does very well with respectful children, especially kids who are past the toddler stage. He is accustomed to a social, active neighborhood with lots of people and children around. This little terrier has a high activity level—he loves his two daily walks, yard play, and doggie playdates.
