Alaska is a beautiful 3-year old female Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 29, 2025 after she was found on Township Road 73 in the Belpre Ohio area. Alaska was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This pretty girl has a black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on her chest, white paws, a long tail, and a lovely face with dark brown eyes, a dusting of white on her muzzle, and floppy ears. Alaska is a fairly big dog who weighs 83 lbs, and she has already been spayed. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Alaska was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership ... But her owner did not come to reclaim Alaska. We had taken first photos of Alaska in her large floor crate the day she was brought to our shelter, and she was making the most of a bad situation since she was surely missing her home/family .. But Alaska still managed to smile for the camera. Sadly, she was not reclaimed. We looked forward to taking more flattering photos of this beautiful girl in the great outdoors with green grass beneath her paws, and we had that opportunity on September 28th. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for treating Alaska to some out-of-kennel time while we snapped these updated pictures. Alaska appeared to be housetrained since she 'took care of business' the moment her paws were in the grassy area. She walked well on a leash for Angel and loved the attention which Angel bestowed upon her. Since Alaska has already been spayed, she could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application (or she could be fostered- or fostered-to-adopt). Alaska (aka Subie Lou) would love to be back in a loving home environment again.
