About Abby
Abby is an 86-pound Great Dane with a love of food and people. She came into her foster home wary of sudden movements and new folks, but time has taught her that most people just want a little affection. Now, she'll nudge you endlessly for petting if you dare stop. She's mastered the "go lay down" command, responds well to structure, and loves her daily walks—as long as the path doesn't get too busy. Runners, bikes, and other dogs put Abby on edge, so her ideal adopter knows how to handle a big but sometimes anxious dog out in the world. Treats make her crate time easy, though she'll voice some complaint before settling in. Abby isn't allowed on the bed but will test the boundaries with the couch if no one is looking. Car rides are high on her list, but vacuums and lawnmowers send her running for cover. Deep down, Abby is affectionate, loyal, and happiest as the main focus in a loving, patient home that kids can be part of, but not other dogs. She's ready to meet her new people in Carrollton, TX. Questions about Abby
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Great Danes like Abby thrive in homes where there's plenty of space to stretch out, ideally with a fenced yard or spacious indoor areas. Their size makes apartment living a challenge unless there's a solid commitment to regular, long walks.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Abby, as a Great Dane, benefits from access to a secure yard but can also do well in a home where she gets daily walks and mental stimulation. A backyard for play and lounging is a bonus.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Great Danes are known for being gentle giants, making Abby a good fit for families with children, especially if the kids understand how to interact with large dogs respectfully.
