About Hazelnut

From Lynda 04.11.26: She is a super sweet girl! She has a gentle temperament, although she can sometimes get a little bit enthusiastic in her excitement when greeting or receiving attention. But she has done fantastic with my young kids (with supervision). She loooooves human attention and belly rubs. She is the kind of dog that is just all around good company! Intelligent, loving, eager to please, and so ready to bond with her forever person! She would love to be able to be with her humans(s) as much as possible. She rides well in the car, and also does very well in her crate at night with the nearby company of our other dogs. She is friendly towards our cat (although she still kinda wants to play with him), and she gets along well with our two other dogs (a 23 lb female dachshund mix and a 30 lb male Aussie mix). The cat is smart and doesn't run, so I don't know how she would be with a cat that was afraid or did run. She does definitely need some work on her leash manners, because she wants to pull a lot, but she does much better when using a front chest clip (we are using an Easy Walk harness). The other thing that I recently discovered is that she is reactive towards other dogs when on a leash out in public. She is super friendly with my dogs at home and immediately fit in, but unfamiliar dogs seem to be a different story. I think she would probably be okay if given the chance to have proper introductions, but we haven't had the chance to work through that yet. It could just be some leash reactivity that would disappear if she wasn't restrained on a leash. She will let you know she needs to potty while out on walks by pulling over to the side / grass. When she's gotta go, she's gotta go! Speaking of going potty, she is doing fantastic with house training. She only had one accident in her first two days with us but had been a superstar ever since (taking regular trips outside to potty, and using a crate when she can't be watched). She will also sometimes protest (whine or howl a bit) if she feels like she was left behind or is missing out on some action somewhere - AKA if she is not in the same room as is (I have baby gates all over the house). But honestly? She is mostly a perfect puppy. Keyword being PUPPY, of course. She is impressively good for her age!! She still has some things to learn about the world and some maturing to do, but she is surprisingly calm and well-mannered indoors and in the car and just in general. She does love to go outside and run off some of her puppy energy, but the rest of the time she is just an awesome gal. She just needs some of the usual things that any puppy needs to turn her into the best companion she can be: obedience training, love and attention, boundaries, supervision, exercise...but she is already just naturally so good. And very social! She loves all humans, from my one year old baby, to my loud and crazy toddler, and of course all of the adults she has met, both male and female. She is ADORABLE. Everyone who meets her says so. And she is smart and ready to learn things! We're working on some basic commands like sit, down, kennel, come, etc. In a "nut" shell, she is a wonderful little puppy who is full of the raw material needed to make someone an amazing companion. She just needs her person to come along (the sooner the better, while she is still a pup) who can help her reach her full potential! No signs of any resource guarding, food aggression, etc. Such a sweetheart.
