NYC winters are harsh for Chihuahuas. Their tiny body loses heat rapidly, and they need an insulated coat and booties for every outdoor trip. Keep walks under 10 minutes when temperatures drop below 30°F. Wind between buildings intensifies the cold.

Spring

Mar – May

Spring brings welcome relief for Chihuahuas in NYC. By April they can enjoy longer walks through Washington Square Park and the West Village. A light sweater may still be needed for cool mornings. Watch for puddles since Chihuahuas chill easily when wet.

Summer

68°F to 85°F

Jun – Aug

Chihuahuas handle NYC summers better than cold since they originate from warm Mexican climates. However, hot pavement is a serious hazard for their tiny paws, which are very close to the ground. Walk in grassy areas or use booties. Always carry water.
