About Birch
Birch is a 6-year-old, 60lb mix of wheaten terrier, Australian Cattle Dog, and Samoyed living in Hillsboro, OR. He’s sharp, devoted, affectionate, and brings a strong personality to the table. Birch thrives with routine, puzzles, and games like “Find It,” and loves his stuffed toys—especially his lambchop, which he totes around gently. He’s not destructive in the house and is completely house trained, though he has a knack for counter surfing if tempted by bread left within reach. However, Birch is not a starter dog. He has a history of reactivity and resource guarding, and he’s been involved in bite incidents when pushed past his comfort zone. He does not do well with cats and needs a calm, adult-only home. An experienced handler who understands reactivity and firm, consistent structure is a must; chaotic environments and frequent visitors would overwhelm him. Birch benefits from steady training and likes to work for treats, responding well to cues like “sit,” “wait,” and “heel.” On walks, he’s improved but can still react to new dogs or people approaching head-on. He’s sensitive about his paws and receives professional help for nail trims, wearing a muzzle as needed. While he’s not for every household, Birch’s loyalty and intelligence shine with the right person who understands his needs. Lets make it official, apply to adopt!
