You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Louis is a one‑year‑old, 26‑lb Beagle mix with the softest eyes and the sweetest nature. He’s an affectionate, cuddly little guy who loves curling up with his people and soaking in quiet companionship. Outside, he blossoms — exploring confidently, trotting happily, and relaxing in the fresh air like it’s her comfort zone. Indoors, he can be a little nervous in a new space, but he warms up beautifully with patience and reassurance, and he’s already showing how resilient and eager‑to‑bond he is. Louis is calm, quiet, and maybe even soulful, with a soft, thoughtful presence that makes him incredibly endearing. Louis comes from a hoarding situation in Oklahoma, where he was kept in large outdoor kennels with many other dogs, which explains why outdoor spaces feel familiar and safe to him. Despite his challenging first year of life, he has held onto his loving, trusting heart — he leans into affection, watches other dogs play with interest, and is already learning how good life can be inside a home. He’s working on housetraining and crate training and walks pretty good on the leash. He rides calmly in the car when either loose or crated, and enjoys cuddling and quiet time. Louis will thrive with a gentle, patient family who understands that new indoor environments can feel overwhelming at first — and who will celebrate every small moment of progress as he settles in and discovers comfort, routine, and love. Access to a fenced-in outdoor area would help him transition along too. Come say hi to Louis! Note: Caregivers of dogs from hoarding situations should be prepared for quirks as well as fear of normal household things/life, people, and excursions. Adopters of dogs like these need to be looking to adopt to help the dog, not so much to get a pet for themselves with specific expectations of the pet. While dogs from hoarding situations can make great pets, they need a home and lifestyle that is gentle, accommodating and will be forgiving as their needs and personalities unfold. Here is a great resource: https://www.washingtonpashelter.org/understanding-and-caring-for-rescued-hoarded-dogs/ An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
