Meet Gus! Gus is a sweet and affectionate 3-year-old male Retriever mix who has a remarkable story of resilience. Rescued from a difficult situation after suffering gunshot wounds and being heartworm positive. Gus has made an incredible recovery and has embraced his second chance at life with quiet strength and unwavering love. Today, Gus is all about companionship. He adores being near his people—whether that means cuddling on the couch or enjoying a relaxed walk around the neighborhood. His calm, easygoing nature and playful spirit make him a wonderful fit for families, singles, or anyone looking for a loyal and loving companion. Gus is recovering (excellently) from gunshot wounds. Between his surgical wounds/scars and his lack of activity required after HW treatment, Gus will need to work to increase his stamina and strength with shorter walks at first, increasing over time. Gus is well-mannered and easy to live with. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and confidently uses a dog door. He knows his basic commands and is eager to keep learning, always wanting to please. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and enjoys making new friends. One of Gus’s most special qualities is his gentle, low-key demeanor. He rarely barks, doesn’t dig or scratch, and is trustworthy when left home alone. He’s not bothered by storms or most loud noises (though he understandably prefers to avoid gunfire), and he’s perfectly content entertaining himself or soaking up snuggle time with his humans. At night, Gus is the ideal companion—quiet, calm, and happy to sleep by your side or independently in another room. While he’s still deciding how he feels about vacuums and bath time, he approaches life with curiosity and courage. With his soulful eyes and warm, happy smile, Gus is ready to find a forever home where he can continue to thrive and share his unconditional love. He would be fine as the only pup in the home or would happy with a dog companion, all he asks is that hge gets lots of attention. If you’re looking for a devoted, gentle companion, Gus may be the perfect addition to your family.
