About Bo

There's something special about Bo. We knew that from the moment we met him. His past experiences with humans and unkindness should have made him untrusting of anyone he met. But it didn't. It should have shut him down completely. But we still saw a tiny spark of hope flicker in his eyes when we first gently said his name. He shouldn't have believed our promises and ignored our endless pets and ear rubs. But he didn't. He came to us tail low and unsure, but still wagging, ears back and a hopeful approach to every new person he met that something better, something safer had finally found him. And it had. Bo is now thriving in his foster home and we couldn't be happier! He has taken his second chance at life and made every moment count! To be an ACD, smarts is required and this guy isn't lacking in that department one bit. He's learned so many commands already and adapted amazingly to living life indoors with humans who adore him. A dog like Bo craves consistency, structure and mental stimulation. He aims to please and working his mind is just as important as his physical needs. He excels at just about everything, even all the new things like potty training, leash walking and obedience. He already knows sit, lie down, hip (heel), wait and boundaries within his foster home where he goes only when invited (i.e. the kitchen). Life with a Heeler means life with a dog on your heel and Bo is just that. He is tightly bonded to his people and perfecting his recall. Although not true for all ACD's, Bo has never met a stranger. We can't believe that for so many reasons but it's true and we absolutely melt over it! Bo loves other dogs and his confidence about this whole new world definitely improves when he has a buddy to nudge him along. Plus, what's better than a built in best friend to share your days with and herd around the yard? However, we know he'd do just as well as an only dog with a family who will continue his training and keep his mind and body working. Oh, what an adventure partner he'd make! Bo has done well with kids but would ideally be best suited for a home with older children or a home experienced with INNATE Heeler instinct and behavior; one that understands what excited, fast moving, younger children might encourage in a dog born to keep things in line. These are not instincts you can train out of an ACD and they are not "bad" behaviors. This boy was built for a specific job and he comes by that honestly. Bo is still learning so much and some things, like riding in the car, were completely foreign to him before coming into our rescue. He is taking it all in stride but will continue to thrive with a human who can offer patience, guidance and confidence. Bo's even keel and happy personality will handle the rest. This guy is truly a gem and being the most handsome guy around doesn't hurt either! We guesstimate Bo to be around 1-1.5 years old. He's currently 38lbs and working on gaining a couple more. His adoption fee includes his neuter, microchip, heartworm/tick borne illness testing, vaccines, dewormings and flea/tick/heartworm prevention. If you have what it takes to be Bo's perfect match, reach out to us! He's waiting patiently for his next amazing chapter of life to start!
