Cannoli is a 1 year old pup who appears to be a Border Collie / Heeler mix, though his breed is just a best guess and not guaranteed. Based on what we are seeing so far, he has a really sweet and gentle personality. Border Collies are known for their intelligence and sensitivity. They tend to be very people focused, eager to learn, and in tune with their environment. Heelers, or Australian Cattle Dogs, are also very smart and loyal, often forming strong bonds with their people. Both breeds are active and thrive when they have structure, consistency, and something to keep their minds engaged. Even with that working dog background, Cannoli is showing a much softer side. He is incredibly dog friendly and human friendly, and more than anything, he just wants to be close to his people and cuddle. When he first arrived, he pancaked on the ground coming out of the car, which suggests he may be unsure or overwhelmed in new situations. That said, his friendly nature shines through right away. As he settles in and gains confidence, we expect him to open up into a happy, fun, and affectionate companion. He will likely benefit from a patient home that allows him to decompress at his own pace while continuing to build his confidence with positive experiences. A home that can provide routine, gentle guidance, and some level of activity will be a great fit for him. Most of all, he is looking for someone who will give him the time he needs to feel safe and the love he is clearly eager to return.
