Carmella is a striking black and white Border Collie, around 3 years old, located in Denver, CO. She's a sensitive, deeply intelligent dog with plenty of energy and working drive. Carmella thrives on mental stimulation and purpose—her ideal adopter is someone familiar with the breed or high-drive working dogs who’s thoughtful about structure, gentle exposures, and committed ongoing training. She’s currently enrolled in a herding dog training program, and she’d truly excel where she has a job or ongoing enrichment. Carmella can be shy and anxious in new situations. She won’t be the dog who greets strangers enthusiastically from day one; she needs an adopter who is patient, compassionate, and able to provide slow, positive introductions to new people and environments. She hasn’t lived with children and, based on her discomfort with new people, she should be in an adult-only, kid-free home. She is house trained, spayed, and up to date on vaccines. Carmella gets along with other dogs after proper, slow introductions, but she does not do well with cats. Life has taught her to be cautious, but when given time and encouragement, she reveals herself as an affectionate and loyal companion to those she trusts.
