This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or North Central Texas area. NAME: Opal GENDER: Female (spayed) AGE: About 1-2 years old WEIGHT: 9 pounds DOGS/CATS: Good with small dogs, Unknown with cats CHILDREN: Should be fine with children 13 and older Meet Opal. The name Opal for a dog means “precious stone” representing beauty. It is a popular, elegant choice for dogs with a gentle, precious personality, symbolizing hope and joy. Our foster family thought this name really honors her journey from a tough past to a bright future that is ahead for her. Opal was part of a 47 small dog seizure in Collin County (north of Dallas TX). These 47 dogs were taken from a home that was in deplorable conditions. None of the dogs had any vet work completed. CRT worked with the Collin County Animal Shelter to transfer several of those dogs into our program. Opal is one of those dogs. We are happy to have her – she is a delight. Opal gets along well with the other small dog in her foster home. She tries to get her older foster sibling to play and has been convincing enough to get the senior engaged in playful activity! Lately the two of them have been doing zoomies around the house! We love the joy that Opal is displaying. We do not think she had toys in her original home. She is very curious about them and has started taking toys out of the toy box. We are encouraging her to “live life and have fun with all our toys”! We love Opal’s sweet personality. Opal is shy and timid when she meets new people. She may be a bit reserved at first, but once she feels safe, she’s confident and affectionate. She has never been aggressive. Once Opal knows she is safe, she becomes your best friend! Opal is a huge lap dog. She enjoys getting petted and spending cuddle time with her family. This girl melts our hearts. Opal is smart. She is doing well with her potty training. We take her out to go potty every few hours so she has a great routine going. She will even venture out in the rain! Opal will also use potty pads as a back up plan. Opal is crate trained and sleeps soundly through the night in her crate. We have begun walking her with a harness and leash and she is doing very well. Our vet estimates that Opal is about 1-2 years old. She weighs about 9 pounds and is fully grown. Opal has a white / creme colored coat. And those floppy ears are so cute! Even though Opal is young, she is a pretty calm little girl. The ideal home for Opal would be one with moderate to laid back energy. She would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 – 4 years old) to play with. We think she would also be good as an only dog as long as her humans had a great deal of time to spend with her. Opal does need a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works away from home 10-12 hours a day). Opal is a quiet little girl. There are no children in her foster home, but we think she would do well with older, mature children (13 and older). We think fast movements of younger children might startle her. Opal is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Note: it works best when our application is filled out on a computer versus a phone or tablet. When it submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application. Opal is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready for adoption. Are you ready to give her a forever home? This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $300.00 adoption donation required. As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met. After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
