About Big Bertha

Big Bertha is pure personality—vivid, lively, and always the social butterfly. She has never met a stranger. At just two years old and weighing 43 lbs, Bertha came into the shelter pregnant, then headed to a foster home where she raised her litter of ten puppies. She stayed with her foster dad for a few years, but in spring 2026, he could no longer keep her, so she's back at the shelter in Clarksville, VA. Now five, Bertha is happiest outside, joining other dogs for playtime or setting out on a good hike or run. She’s heartworm negative, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. With a strong hound spirit, Bertha loves to explore and brings high energy everywhere she goes. She’s not yet house trained but loves other dogs and thrives when she has room to move.
