Rover is a one-of-a-kind Dachshund/Rottweiler mix, around 5 years and 1 month old, with striking black and tan coloring. He’s a neutered male currently living in Enid, OK and is up to date on vaccinations. Rover is not suited for homes with dogs or cats, but he welcomes people of all ages. As an Aries, he brings extra enthusiasm to every introduction.

About Rover

Rover arrived at the ESPCA after his time as a stray was up, and he’s unlike most mixes you’ll see. With the short, long body of a Dachshund and the classic Rottie coloring, he’s got a look all his own. At around five years old, Rover knows what he likes—namely, being the only dog in the home. Multiple dog tests have confirmed he isn’t open to sharing his space with another dog. Rover does, however, light up with every person he meets. Men, women, and kids all get a warm welcome, especially if they’re up for giving him a belly rub. He’s not a match for homes with cats either, but if you want a loyal companion who lives for human attention, Rover’s your guy. Kennels are open for visits Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Questions about Rover

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Rover, as a Dachshund/Rottweiler mix, generally prefers a home where he can spend quality time with his people and has a stable, calm environment. Since he needs to be the only animal, a single-dog home suits him best.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Both Dachshunds and Rottweilers enjoy daily walks and a bit of playtime, so Rover will appreciate a yard or regular outdoor outings, but he doesn’t require a huge property thanks to his moderate energy level.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Rover has responded positively to kids in the past, and both of his breeds are generally good companions for families, so he should do well in a home with children who know how to interact respectfully with dogs.
