His journey has been one of quiet courage and steady growth, and today he is a happy, playful pup who has discovered the simple joys of comfort, friendship, and feeling safe. Mooney may have started out unsure of the world, but he has proven to be incredibly resilient — and his future family will get to enjoy the wonderful dog he has worked so hard to become. An Easygoing Routine and Excellent House Manners Mooney is wonderfully flexible when it comes to daily routines. He wakes up ready to head outside for potty time whenever the household begins to stir — whether that’s 5 a.m. or 9 a.m. — and he has been very reliable about doing his business outdoors. He has enjoyed free roam of the house for short periods without any trouble and has shown himself to be a respectful and trustworthy little housemate. Mooney can be crated when needed and has done well for up to seven hours, often choosing to go into the crate on his own to nap — especially if a canine friend is joining him for a cozy snuggle. Mooney free-feeds and sometimes needs a little encouragement to remember that meals are important, especially if he thinks he might miss out on something interesting. Sitting nearby with him or offering a tasty topper usually does the trick, and he happily settles in to eat once he realizes all is well. A Quiet Companion With a Growing Confidence When Mooney first arrived at the shelter, he was unsure about people and kept to himself. He wouldn’t come forward for attention or treats, and everything felt unfamiliar. But once he experienced kindness, patience, and a warm home, he began to trust — and he hasn’t looked back. Today, Mooney is a sweet and affectionate companion who loves to snuggle in bed and soak up the comfort of soft blankets. He often sleeps beside his foster mom, sometimes curled up close, sometimes stretched out on his side or belly-up in total relaxation. If he gets warm, he simply moves to the cool floor and continues sleeping peacefully through the night. He enjoys being near his people and will happily follow them from room to room, offering gentle smiles, soft eyes, and full-body tail wags. While he has grown more confident, he still appreciates reassurance with new experiences, and a patient, loving home will help him continue to thrive. A True “Dog’s Dog” Who Loves Canine Companionship Mooney currently lives with two large doodles — one male and one female — and he has shown excellent social skills with them. He reads other dogs’ cues beautifully and adjusts his behavior with ease. If another dog isn’t interested in sharing space, he politely moves along and finds another cozy spot. He is happy to share toys, beds, food bowls, and attention, never showing possessiveness or aggression. More recently, Mooney gained a small female foster friend (Cheesecake, up for adoption soon!), and his playful side has truly come to life. He now enjoys romping, exploring the yard, and engaging in happy bursts of play before settling down for a nap together. This shift showed just how adaptable he is — content to match the energy of the household, whether that means quiet lounging or playful fun. Because of how much confidence and joy he gains from canine companionship, Mooney would likely do best in a home with another friendly dog who can offer both playtime and reassurance as he continues building confidence. Calm, Gentle, and Well-Behaved Mooney has shown zero destructive behaviors. He doesn’t dig, chew on household items, or cause mischief. His favorite chew items are the ones provided to him, like durable chew horns, and he is respectful of his environment. He is also a fairly quiet pup. When the resident dogs bark at deliveries, Mooney sometimes joins in — but his version of a bark is more of a soft little “bouf,” as if he wants to participate without being the center of attention. He’s more of a supportive teammate than a front-line guard dog. He is still learning about the wider world, including leash walking and unfamiliar environments, but he has shown himself to be calm and unbothered around other dogs in public settings. With continued gentle exposure and patience, his confidence will keep growing. A Heart Full of Gratitude and Joy Mooney’s foster family describes him as a truly special little dog — one who has brought healing, laughter, and comfort into their home. Despite whatever challenges he may have faced before rescue, he greets each day with a gentle spirit and an open heart. He has learned that he is safe, that he is loved, and that good things are possible. He is the kind of companion who will quietly settle beside you, share peaceful moments, and remind you how meaningful simple companionship can be. Watching him relax completely — belly exposed, paws tucked, nose sighing in contentment — is a beautiful reminder of how far he has come. Mooney’s Ideal Home Mooney is an adaptable little guy who can settle into many types of households, but he would especially thrive in a home that offers patience, kindness, and a friendly canine companion. He enjoys companionship, play, and cozy naps, and he will reward his family with loyalty, sweetness, and a gentle presence. Most of all, Mooney is ready for a home where he can continue to feel safe, loved, and part of the family — because this brave little dog has earned every bit of happiness coming his way.
