Sophie is a beautiful 3-year old yellow Lab who weighs about 58 lbs. She is spayed, housebroken, crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and is great in the car. She allows brushing, nail trimming, bathing and ear cleaning. Sophie is a very sweet and happy girl that really loves people and toys. She was raised at a breeding kennel, so she is cautious about the new things that home life has to offer. With gentle support and training that focuses on positive reinforcement, she is adapting very well to her new surroundings. Sophie is very smart, and has learned her name, “sit” and “down”. She takes treats gently, and allows her foster Dad to take from her mouth any food, bones, toys, etc. At the kennel, anything she could reach was hers to play with, so “off” and “leave it” are works-in-progress. Sophie loves to meet other dogs, and is learning to share her toys. She is great with school-age kids and adults, but has not met any toddlers. She has not been exposed to cats, but does not show a strong prey drive when outside. Sophie is generally calm but also has a playful side. And this girl can demolish a tennis ball in 4 minutes flat. Because she loves her people so much, she always wants to be with them. Sophie prefers to be close, usually lying at her foster’s feet or in her crate if people are close by. She would benefit from a fenced yard at her new home, and will do best with a patient family where someone is home often and willing to continue gentle, treat-oriented, positive training. She is being fostered in a northwest Chicago suburb. ******* Adopting a Lab can be a wonderful experience. Your new dog will need lots of love, adequate exercise and attention. Keep in mind that dog ownership may include additional costs for training, grooming, and health care beyond annual vaccines and monthly preventatives. It’s a lifetime commitment!
