About Oscar

Please note: We are only processing applications for homes with another resident dog. We had already finalized our dogs for West Coast transport when we came across Oscar, and despite being at capacity, we knew we couldn't leave him behind. This special little old man made the journey to New York on 2/28. Oscar is estimated to be 10–12 years old and weighs about 8–10 lbs. While we don't know his full story, we do know he was found on the streets of Tijuana severely emaciated and seeking shelter in a travel kennel. Despite everything he's been through, Oscar has not lost his ability to open up and accept love. Over the past month, he's had the chance to decompress and heal with his devoted foster family, gaining weight, recovering, and truly settling into his new life. He's not looking back. Oscar is ready for his golden years, and we know they're going to be his very best yet. Oscar is a cozy, low-key companion who made himself at home almost immediately. He loves curling up in a soft dog bed (preferably on the couch), soaking up gentle affection, and staying close to his people. At night, he sleeps soundly in bed with his foster family and their dogs, and he handles stairs with ease. When left with his foster siblings, he relaxes and snoozes peacefully. While he has shown some distress when completely alone, having another dog nearby helps him feel safe and settled. He is both pee pad and outdoor trained and sleeps through the night without issue. Oscar absolutely loves going for walks and spending time outside, he's confident on leash and enjoys exploring. While loud city noises can occasionally startle him, he recovers quickly and continues on his way. Oscar forms deep bonds and loves wholeheartedly. He would make an ideal companion for someone who works from home or is simply looking for a constant, loving presence. He thrives in a calm, peaceful environment and is happiest in a home that embraces quiet routines, cozy moments, and the occasional adventure. He truly enjoys the companionship of other dogs and would do best in a home with a similarly sized, calm canine friend to help him feel secure. While he hasn't been tested with children, we believe he would do well with respectful kids who understand gentle interactions. He has not been cat tested but may be fine with proper introductions. If you're looking for a devoted best friend who will fill your home with warmth, comfort, and unconditional love, Oscar is ready to make your world a little softer and a lot sweeter. Oscar has a low-grade heart murmur that has been fully evaluated by a veterinarian. At this time, no treatment or additional medical intervention is needed. We simply recommend that his adopters continue to monitor it with routine annual check-ups. Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses. Current on flea, tick, and heart worm prevention. To apply to adopt Oscar, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for a foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Questions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org
