Tater is a one-year-old Shepherd mix weighing about 54 pounds who has unfortunately found his way back to the shelter after being adopted as a puppy. Like many young, intelligent dogs, Tater needs structure, activity, and guidance to thrive. In his previous home he became overwhelmed by a busy environment with very young children and not enough outlets for his energy and curiosity. Tater is a very smart boy and may have some herding dog traits in his personality. Dogs like Tater do best when their minds and bodies are engaged. Training, enrichment, puzzle toys, hiking, running, scent work, or other activities that challenge him mentally will help him flourish. Tater previously lived in a home and was housebroken. He also lived with a cat — he was interested in playing, though the cat was less enthusiastic about the idea. Tater is still a young dog who will benefit from continued structure, guidance, and an active lifestyle. Tater tested Lyme positive, which is very common in our area and often manageable with routine veterinary care and monitoring. Our staff would be happy to discuss what this means with potential adopters. Tater is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, dewormed, on monthly preventatives, and has been heartworm tested.
