About Spike
Spike is a 5-year-old Shepherd mix with an unmistakable presence, tipping the scales at a solid 66 pounds and looking a bit like a Butterball—round, jolly, and with a heart that matches his size. He came from a large group of dogs whose caregiver could no longer keep them, but even after all that upheaval, Spike remains lively and engaged with the world around him. He’s most at ease with women and becomes especially loyal once trust is established. Walks, play sessions, or simply being close to his people—Spike is happiest when included in daily life. He’s got a gentle nature with kids and tends to do well with other dogs, provided introductions are slow and controlled. Cats, however, are off the table, so a feline-free home is a must. Healthwise, Spike has some residual heart changes from a past battle with heartworm disease, yet he’s testing negative now. He will need Vetmedin and regular vet checkups to keep his heart healthy—a little extra TLC for a dog who gives so much in return. Spike keeps things tidy in his kennel and should adapt well to house training with consistency and patience. He’s neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines, including rabies, and on preventatives for parasites. All he needs now is someone who understands him and can offer the structure and affection he deserves. Your new best friend could be waiting in Orange, VA. Lets make it official, apply to adopt!
