About Ruby
Meet Ruby… your resident pillow architect, professional snuggler, and 70-pound lap dog who fully believes she weighs about 12 lbs 🛏️🐾 Born 5/28/2023, Ruby has already lived a whole lifetime before landing in foster. She was found as a stray, extremely underweight, and likely used for breeding… but you’d never know it now. This girl has gained nearly 30 pounds, her spark is back, and she is *ready* to be someone’s whole world. Let’s start with her greatest talent: Ruby is a pillow fort engineer. Not casual pillow use… we’re talking full-blown interior design. She will build, burrow, rearrange, and disappear into pillows like it’s her full-time job. Her vibe: Think cozy teenager energy. Eat. Nap. Snuggle. Repeat. Ruby is incredibly affectionate with her people. She wants to be close… like *really* close. On the couch? She’s on you. In bed? She’s in your spot. She’s a physical-touch love language queen who bonds deeply and loves hard. The good stuff: – Knows sit, stay, drop it, take it, and “go to bed” – Crate trained & house trained – Dog friendly and very respectful of other dogs’ boundaries – More chill than chaotic… she’ll play, but not long – Takes corrections and redirection well – Thrives on routine, snacks, and affection Her “needs a minute, don’t rush her” section: Ruby does need slow introductions with new people. New humans in her space can be a little scary at first, and she does best when people ignore her initially and toss treats instead of going straight in for pets. Give her a few minutes… that’s it. Once she decides you’re safe, she flips the switch into full cuddle mode and will absolutely smother you with love and kisses. Other quirks that make her… Ruby: – Still learning that food is consistent, so she can get a little excited when treats are involved, but she’s improved a ton – Walks are enjoyable, but she’s got some opinions about reactive dogs (non-reactive dogs = “hmm interesting,” reactive dogs = “Why are you acting that way?”) – Tin foil noise and weird light reflections? Immediate suspect. She will file a formal complaint (barking), but redirects easily 😅 Her dream home: – A calmer, less chaotic household where she can settle in at her own pace – People who understand that trust is earned, not rushed – A family that loves snuggling as much as she does – Can live with other dogs or be your one-and-only – Someone willing to keep working on her confidence and leash manners Ruby is soft in every sense of the word… soft eyes, soft heart, soft spot for pillows. She’s been through enough to know the world isn’t always kind, but she *wants* to trust, and once she does, she is all in. If you’ve got a couch, a pile of pillows, and a little patience… Ruby will build herself a fort right into your life and never leave. Visit rescueapittie.org to apply!
