About Gertie
We've confirmed that Gertie, our 5 year old 16 pound pug, is, in fact, a dog. We admit, Gertie is far (far, far, far) removed from her wolf ancestors. Instead of an impressive howl when she's reunited with her pack, Gertie will instead erupt into excited sneezes. Instead of hunting prey, Gertie waits to see if the cat wouldn't mind sharing some kibble. Fortunately for Gertie, we are in the business of finding all kinds of dogs homes. Even if they look like they arrived on a flying saucer. Gertie somehow survived being stray and pregnant long enough to end up in the shelter. We were asked to help so she could safely raise her puppy. Gertie also had several broken teeth that needed to be addressed. Gertie's puppy is finally old enough to find her own home. And we took care of Gertie's smile when we spayed her; she's recovered beautifully. We don't think Gertie has ever met anyone she didn't like. She's great with kids, is tolerant of all other animals, and is exceedingly gentle. Although not particularly playful, Gertie loves being pet and cuddled. She is quiet (except when snoring), crate trained, house broken, and is good on a leash. Gertie has luxating patellas, which means her kneecaps slide to the side when her back legs are extended. At this point, her loose kneecaps aren't causing her any pain. However, in some dogs, luxating patellas can lead to arthritis later in life. Gertie's adopter will want to keep her trim and strong. As Gertie is up for adventures, this should be easy enough to do. Gertie is heartworm negative and is current on her flea and heartworm preventatives. Her adoption fee is $350. Have you been looking for a dog but have also been wondering what it would be like to have a snorting, sneezing, fuzzy alien for a pet? Well, look no further.
