Sammy is the definition of a happy, social dog who loves meeting new people and making friends wherever he goes. Sometimes his enthusiasm can make him a bit overly friendly, but with gentle guidance and consistency, he settles down nicely and shows just how sweet and well-mannered he can be. Sammy has a moderate energy level and enjoys a great balance of playtime and relaxation. He absolutely loves being outside, running around, and engaging in his favorite activity — playing with his full-size football. Yes, you read that right. Sammy proudly carries around a full-size leather football and loves when his people throw it for him. He also enjoys playing with a horse-sized Jolly Ball, using his paws to knock it around or playfully “slap” at you when you're holding it. His playful, goofy nature makes him incredibly endearing and entertaining to watch. Sammy is housetrained and does well in the home. While he prefers lounging on a couch or bed like many Great Danes, he can also settle in a crate when needed. He rides well in the car and walks on leash, though he may need some correction at the start of walks when he gets excited. Once he burns off that initial excitement, he settles into a more relaxed pace. Sammy knows basic commands such as sit and stop, and he responds well to guidance. He is a smart dog who would thrive with continued training and structure to help him channel his excitement in positive ways. Occasionally, he may bark in his kennel and appear anxious, but he typically settles quickly, especially when given the opportunity to go outside and release some energy. When it comes to other animals, Sammy is friendly with dogs and has met both large and small dogs successfully. He tends to be more interested in playing with humans and his favorite toys, but he enjoys having canine companions around. He currently lives with cats and largely ignores them, calmly stepping around them or briefly sniffing before moving on.
