About Magpie

Meet Magpie Magpie's story is one of quiet courage and devotion. This 2.5-year-old, 70-pound Yellow Lab/Golden Retriever mix was found on the side of a rural highway with her four puppies, doing her best to keep them safe while fending for her little family alone. Thanks to the kindness of good Samaritans, Magpie and her pups made their way to Take Paws Rescue, where they're finally getting the fresh start they deserve. Despite everything she's been through, Magpie is the sweetest dog you could hope to meet. She greets people with warmth and kindness and has done wonderfully with adults, older kiddos. Her calm, gentle nature reflects a dog who has spent much of her life caring for others. She will need slow introductions to other dogs. Since arriving in foster care, Magpie has shown what a truly lovely companion she is. She handled bath time beautifully (in fact, the warm bath seemed to relax her), has never had an accident in the house, and has shown excellent manners. Even when given the opportunity, she doesn't jump on furniture unless invited-and if told no, she respectfully listens. Magpie is also a quiet, easygoing presence in the home. She rarely barks (one of the few times was when she noticed her reflection in a mirror!) and has been wonderful in her kennel. With a little encouragement she settles right in and sleeps peacefully through the night. She eats well, takes medication easily, and has proven to be incredibly well behaved-she has exhibited some resource guarding when things are taken away from her. Now that her puppies are safe and growing, it's finally Magpie's turn to be cared for. She's ready for a home where she can relax, feel secure, and enjoy the love and comfort she's always given so freely. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a tender heart and beautiful spirit, Magpie is ready to land gently in your life and become part of your family.
