About Rex

Some stories start in the quietest places but speak the loudest. Rex was found on a lonely country porch in Southeast Louisiana, miles from anywhere, nursing a severe tail injury and waiting for a family that never came. After a stint in a crowded shelter where his time was nearly up, Rex's luck finally turned. We saw that soulful face and knew his real journey was just beginning. Rex is a 4 year old Rat Terrier Mix and weighs a perfect 10 lbs (The ideal size for lap-warming and co-piloting!) and is fully vaccinated. He is currently healing from a tail injury and will be neutered once he is 100%. He is also heartworm positive, but don't let that stay in the way-Take Paws Rescue covers the full cost of his treatment. Despite everything he's been through, Rex is the ultimate optimist. He is currently rocking his "cone of shame" with total dignity, taking his recovery in stride. If there is a car moving, Rex wants to be in it-he is an expert co-pilot who loves watching the world go by from the passenger seat. He is currently living the good life with a foster sibling (a fellow Take Paws alum!) and enjoys his daily walks and social time. Rex doesn't ask for much; he just wants to be where you are. Whether you're heading out for an adventure or settling in for a movie marathon, this little guy is ready to be your right-hand man. Rex is the definition of a "second chance" pup. He is cuddle-obsessed, his favorite place is curled up right next to his human. He is resilient and handles medical care and new environments with a wagging tail. He gets along great with other dogs and is anxious to find his forever family. Rex has spent enough time wandering. He's ready to unpack his bags, finish his healing journey, and show you that the best things in life often come in small, ten-pound packages. Ready to give Rex the love he deserves? Visit our website to fill out an adoption application! Rex will be neutered (pending health), microchipped, and his heartworm treatment is fully covered by the rescue! Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed. ***Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
