About North
NORTH has a Harrowing Rescue Tale. In the summer, a young woman spied a tiny tuxedo who was wandering on the edge of busy Northern State Parkway. She stopped her car & was able to grab the 12 week old wayward waif, and rushed her to her mom Mary who happens to be a volunteer & foster cat Mom for Last Hope. Lucky little North was named , of course, for the precarious parkway. Right away, it was apparent that NORTH's eyes were squinty & teary. Our veterinarian realized she didn't have a typical ocular infection, but instead a congenital defect called agenesis where a cat's eyelids, especially the top, are formed incompletely with gaps. This causes irritation, ulcers, & pain in the cat's eyes. Last Hope sent NORTH for surgery by a specialist to repair both eyelids. She had been recovering under Mary's care until this week when NORTH came to our Wantagh Adoption Center, ready for adoption. NORTH is now 7 months old. As far as we know, NORTH wasn't carrying a compass on the day she came close to losing her life on the parkway. But somehow, someway, NORTH happened to step out at the right moment, at the precise spot when the right person would drive near, stop, & whisk her into the safe arms of Last Hope. Think about the sense of direction & timing of this partially blind kitten. The geographical & chronological coordinates defy coincidence.
