About Onyx

Your new best friend is just one click away. Meet Onyx, a sweet little 7-year-old Chi Dachshund mix who weighs around 20 pounds. With her calm and gentle spirit, Onyx’s endearing personality is sure to bring a smile to your face every day. She’s spayed, vaccinated, and current on all preventatives, making her ready to join a loving family. Onyx’s journey hasn’t been the easiest—rescued from an overcrowded Houston shelter, she’s proven herself a true gem. Currently fostered in San Antonio, she’s eager to find her forever family and can be transported out of state for the right adopter. As an older gal with some arthritis, Onyx thrives in a semi-active or low-activity household. She enjoys short walks and lots of relaxing, happily trotting along until it’s time for cozy naps and gentle affection. Despite her mellow style, Onyx retains her playful side. She delights in toys, sticks, and balls, and likes running and playing with other dogs. She’s cordial greeting new friends on leash, though sometimes a bit excitable. While she hasn’t met cats, she’s done well with respectful kids aged 7–12 and would be best suited for a home with older, dog-savvy children. Onyx is exceptionally easygoing, smart, and quietly amusing in her senior-dog ways. She’s house trained, content sleeping in her crate, and can rest there up to 10 hours if needed. She has no resource or food guarding, and is trustworthy when given free roam. One of her signature quirks is flopping out in the yard and happily rubbing her belly in circles. Onyx loves being close to her humans, preferring to rest beside rather than on you. If you value a calm, affectionate companion who simply wants to be near and loved, Onyx may be your perfect match. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
