About Penelope

Penelope is a small Dachshund and Pug mix with a striking black and brown brindle coat. At about 10 months old, she’s brimming with puppy energy and adores roughhousing and running around with her sister Dottie. Penelope is thriving in her foster home, where she’s picking up housetraining quickly, sleeps quietly in her crate, and uses a doggie door with confidence. She starts off a bit shy when meeting new people, but warms up fast, showing a sweet, affectionate nature and handing out plenty of kisses once she feels comfortable. Penelope really needs a playful dog companion in her future family. She requires a securely fenced yard for her bursts of energy and safe outdoor bathroom breaks. Her ideal home is one where she isn't left alone for long stretches; someone who works from home or an active retiree under 65 would suit her best. She’s not fully leash-trained yet, but she learns fast and is eager to please. Car rides don’t faze her, and she’s ready to become your eager adventure buddy. She’s spayed, microchipped, and current on all her vaccinations, including Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella. Penelope is heartworm-negative and protected with preventive meds. Forever Home Canine Rescue provides a three-week trial period to ensure the right fit, but adopters must be able to meet her in person in North Carolina as she will not be shipped or transported. Penelope is looking for a lively, loving household ready to welcome her as family. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
