Davidson, lovingly called Davie, is a very sweet lab mix who weighs 53 pounds. He is learning that the world can be a safe place. He came to us extremely underweight and clearly carrying the emotional scars of past abuse, so he will need a patient and understanding adopter who can help him continue building confidence. Davie is very timid and easily startled. When he gets scared, he tends to shut down rather than react, and he has shown no signs of aggression—only fear. Because of his sensitive nature, he responds best to calm guidance and positive reinforcement. He is still nervous around men but has already begun making progress with his foster dad, allowing him to pet him and slowly working on going outside on leash. Over the past few days, he has started wagging his tail and even doing a tiny gallop when he feels brave. Davie has shown friendly interest in the foster puppies in his home, happily sniffing noses through their pen and wagging his tail. Because of his timid personality, Davie will likely always need a very secure environment and should be considered a potential flight risk. His adopter will need to be diligent with leashing, gates, and other safety precautions.
