Chico, lovingly nicknamed “Chico the Rabbit,” is an 8-month-old Chihuahua with a playful personality and the cutest habit of bouncing up and down when he wants attention—or when he hopes to be picked up and cradled. His joyful little hops are how he earned his nickname, and they never fail to make people smile. Chico ended up in our care through absolutely no fault of his own. His previous family adopted him without landlord approval, and when the situation came to light, sweet Chico was the one who sadly lost his home. Thankfully, he is now safe and exactly where he needs to be while he waits for the right family to come along. Because of the sudden changes in his life, Chico can be a little nervous when meeting new people, which is completely understandable. However, once he realizes he’s safe, he warms up quickly and shows just how loving he truly is. When he trusts you, he becomes incredibly affectionate and simply wants to be close to his person. Chico gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats and is currently living in a foster home with a 60-pound canine sibling, proving that his small size doesn’t stop him from making big friends. He is full of joy and excitement—especially when he sees his leash and harness come out. At that point, his happy bouncing begins because he knows it’s time for an adventure. He also loves car rides and will happily sit calmly on your lap, enjoying the journey. Chico is crate trained as well, making the transition into a new home even smoother. Chico does have one special preference—he bonds most closely with women. In his previous home, he lived with a female owner, and while we don’t know much about his earlier experiences, he does not feel very comfortable around men. Because of this, Chico would do best in a female-only home where he can feel safe and build trust at his own pace. If you're a single woman looking for a loyal little companion, Chico might just be your tiny bodyguard. Once he chooses his person, he becomes incredibly devoted and loves staying close by your side. Chico can be a little picky about who he gives his heart to, but with patience—and maybe a few of his favorite meat treats—it’s definitely possible to win him over. For the right person willing to take the time and earn his trust, the reward is a sweet, loving little dog who will adore you completely. Chico is neutered, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and fully vet-checked, so he is ready to begin his next chapter with his forever family. He is currently wee-wee pad trained and does a great job using his designated potty area. Like many young dogs still learning routines, he may have the occasional accident, but with gentle correction he understands and improves quickly. His foster shares that Chico is mostly using his wee-wee pads consistently and continues working with him on going outside as well to help reinforce his potty training. Chico is looking for a foster-to-adopt home or a committed adopter who can offer him stability, patience, and understanding.
