Meet Clifford - yes, just like the big red dog. Clifford came to us in January from a cruelty and neglect case in Juneau County, and it didn't take long for staff to start calling him the "big red dog." The nickname stuck, and Clifford has been winning hearts ever since. Clifford likely has a few years under his belt, but it's hard to say exactly how old he is. His teeth are extremely worn down, which we suspect is from a lifetime of having to chew on things like rocks, chains, or trash just to keep himself occupied. Whatever his past looked like, it clearly wasn't easy - but you'd never know it from the incredibly sweet dog he is today. Clifford is an absolute staff favorite and a total love bug. He has the squishiest cheeks that everyone here can't resist, and he happily leans in for pets and affection. He's the kind of dog who just wants to be close to his people and soak up all the love he can get. He's been wonderful with people of all ages, including kiddos, and we suspect he would likely ignore cats. Here at the shelter he can be a little dog selective, so we would want to schedule a dog meet-and-greet with any potential canine siblings to make sure everyone is a good match. Like some of the other dogs from this case, Clifford is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. He's already started the process, and his final treatment is scheduled in a few weeks, so he is available now through a foster-to-adopt arrangement while he finishes up his care. Clifford has spent far too long without the comfort and stability every dog deserves. Now he's ready for the good life - soft beds, gentle hands, belly rubs, and a family who will love him as much as he'll love them right back.
