About Sandy
After completing the initial phone screening, you’ll be connected with the foster for a video chat meet and greet. Transports run every few weeks, and approved dogs will be placed on the next available transport. If you’re not ready to adopt until a later date, please wait to apply until that time. We are a volunteer-run rescue, and our team donates time and effort to helping these dogs. If you are not fully committed to moving forward in the adoption process, we kindly ask that you do not apply. If others are involved in the decision-making process, please make sure you’ve discussed the adoption with them and that everyone is on board. We want to ensure we’re using everyone’s time wisely and focusing on finding the right homes for our dogs. Link to adoption application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PRP/Dog ___ Sandy (formerly Blanca) is a 1-year-old spayed female who was saved from the euthanasia list at the San Antonio shelter and hasn’t stopped showing her gratitude since. She’s playful, affectionate, and curious about everything — a perfect mix of sweetness and fun who’s still learning how to take in the world around her. Sandy has a few small spots of permanent hair loss on her back from old injuries that are now fully healed. These injuries are suspected chemical burns, believed to be the result of prior abuse, but they cause her no pain today and are simply little badges of resilience that don’t slow her down one bit. Sandy is being fostered in Austin, Texas. Transport out of state can be arranged by the rescue for approved adopters. Please note, our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we’ll reach out to coordinate a phone interview, followed by a video call with her foster home. A virtual home visit, plus personal and vet reference checks, are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation. Sandy has high puppy energy and loves to play with other dogs, especially those in the 50–75 lb range. She’s social, friendly, and a little exuberant when greeting new friends — she just can’t help herself! She occasionally forgets when another dog is done playing but is learning quickly. Her ideal home would be with an adopter who enjoys an active lifestyle and can help her channel that energy with walks, playtime, and training. Sandy has a strong prey drive and is not suited for a home with cats. She’s happiest around people and other dogs who love to play, and she’d thrive with a canine companion who’s balanced and tolerant of puppy energy. She absolutely loves kids, but because of her size, enthusiasm, and occasional jumping, she’d do best in a home with older children (around 7+) and people who are steady on their feet. She’s never rough or mean — just an excitable young dog who’s still learning her manners. She can be mouthy like a puppy, but listens immediately when corrected and is improving every day. Sandy is fully house-trained and perfect in her crate — quiet overnight from about 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. with zero issues or accidents. She eats in her crate and shows no food or toy guarding toward people. On leash, Sandy walks well most of the time, though she can get excited when she sees kids on scooters or things rolling by. With consistency and positive reinforcement, she’ll continue to improve and make an excellent walking partner. Sandy’s personality is outgoing, smart, silly, and affectionate. She loves ropes, chew toys, and cuddle time. She’s great in the car, friendly with new people, and happiest when she’s part of the action. She’s still very much a big puppy and could benefit from continued leash work and basic command training to help her be her best self. With structure, patience, and plenty of love, Sandy will blossom into a well-mannered, loyal best friend. If you’re looking for a fun, energetic, and loving dog to share your adventures — and your couch — Sandy is your girl ___ Breed and Age Notice: The listed breed and age are our best estimates. In most cases, we do not know a dog’s exact age or full breed mix, as information is often limited. Ready to apply? Complete an adoption application using the link below!
