About Johanna In La

Johanna is a "Pocket Pyr” mix who came to us as a young mama, still a girl herself - learning the world while fiercely protecting the little ones in it. Her mothering instincts are something to behold. When her pups wandered too close to the creek or got themselves stuck somewhere they couldn't climb out of, Johanna was there, nudging them to safety, picking them up gently, standing guard. That deep, intuitive attentiveness isn't something you can teach. It's simply who she is. With her medium-length coat built for the outdoors and a spirit to match, Johanna is most at home with 70% of her time spent outside, patrolling her perimeter and keeping watch over her world. She's housebroken and wonderfully gentle - no wild jumping, no chaos at the door - just a sweet, calm presence with new people, kids, and other dogs alike. She's lived alongside 13 dogs and barely blinked at the cats. She only sounds the alarm at night when she's outside alone, and even then, it's a purposeful bark saying, “I’m on duty, and everything is under control.” Her wild spirit is one of her most magnificent qualities. She'll track a rabbit for hours, nose to the ground, completely locked in. It's raw and beautiful, and it's not something you'd ever want to train out of her. Pair that with her voracious appetite for life (and food - this girl eats with enthusiasm), her boundless energy, and her deep loyalty, and you have a dog who will thrive on trails and real adventure. A 6-foot fence is a must to keep her explorer's instincts from taking her too far. Johanna belongs with an adventurous, active family - hikers, explorers, and/or kids who want to grow up with a loyal and watchful companion by their side. She is, in every sense, a dog with an “ADVENTURE NEEDED” plaque hanging from her collar, and she’s excited to meet her PYR-fect forever family! NYS Registered Rescue # RR102 NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTABLE-DOGS Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you. HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION/ Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
