Charlotte is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu who weighs about 10 lbs and has already proven herself to be one of the toughest little dogs you’ll ever meet. After enduring a traumatic injury and infection that led to the loss of her leg, Charlotte bounced back with resilience. She craves affection and is happiest snuggled in close or getting gentle pets. In her foster home, she is calm with other dogs and mostly prefers to keep to herself, but she’s starting to show hints of playfulness as she grows more confident and comfortable. Charlotte would fit well with a mellow, older dog or as an only pet deserving of the princess treatment. She isn’t looking to keep up with high-energy playmates or a hectic home. While Charlotte isn’t housetrained (she is strictly pee pad trained), she is reliable with puppy pads and speeds around on three legs without slowing down. She isn’t suited for apartment or condo life because she’s vocal when left alone and will do best in a home with someone around most of the day—ideally someone who works from home. Her adopter must be committed to caring for her unique needs: Charlotte requires daily eye cleaning and should remain on a low-calorie diet.
