About Ranch

Ranch's Story - And Why Rescue Contracts Matter Ranch came to us as a tiny bottle baby and grew up surrounded by love in our rescue until he was about 4 months old. When he was adopted on August 2nd, we believed he had found the perfect forever home with a family in Sacramento. We asked the questions, completed the vetting, and hoped he was living his best life. But Ranch's story didn't end there. On January 12, 2026, animal control in Kerman, CA received a call about an injured dog. When officers arrived, they found a scared but friendly dog near a trailer. He would approach them, but any sudden movement would cause him to run away. They ultimately had to set a humane trap to safely capture him. That dog was Ranch. He had a large laceration on his right front leg, which the shelter treated, and thankfully he is now okay. We still don't know how long he had been on the streets or how he ended up so far from where he was adopted. What we do know is that we were never contacted. We were not notified by the adopters. We were not contacted when he went missing. And his adopters removed their information from his microchip. We didn't even know he was there until March 3rd, when we were finally alerted. The moment we found out, we jumped into action to bring our boy home. Our contract is very clear: Dogs adopted from Fosters & Paws are never to be rehomed, abandoned, or surrendered to a shelter without contacting us first. Why? Because we will always take our dogs back. Always. The good news? Ranch is safe. Thanks to some incredible pilots and rescuers who stepped up to help, Ranch made the journey home today by plane - and judging by his reaction, he's pretty convinced that flying is the only acceptable way for him to travel from now on. While we're relieved and grateful to have him back, Ranch's story is an important reminder: If you adopt a dog and something changes - call the rescue. If you can't keep your dog - call the rescue. If your dog gets lost - call the rescue. We are here to help, and our only goal is the safety and wellbeing of the dogs we work so hard to save. Ranch is home now. And that's what matters most.
