Roosky is an 8-year-old, 14-lb terrier with a big personality packed into a small body. Currently being fostered in Landenberg, PA, this little guy has come a long way and is ready to find a home that appreciates his playful spirit and love for lap time. When Roosky first arrived from the shelter, he was extremely nervous, underweight at just 7 pounds, and unsure about being handled. With time, patience, and the help of his medications, he has truly come into his own. Today he is a healthy 14 pounds and much more comfortable with people. He enjoys being picked up, happily settles in for lap cuddles, and absolutely loves playing with balls and spending time outside in a fenced yard. Roosky has a moderate energy level and enjoys staying active. Because of this, a home with a yard would be ideal for him so he can run and play. He walks nicely on a leash, sleeps comfortably in his crate at night, and uses belly bands in the house. He is also able to do stairs without any trouble. Roosky does best with calm, small dogs and tends to bark at larger dogs, so a home without big dogs would be the best fit. He does have some food guarding behaviors, so he is fed separately in his kennel. Aside from that, he is a fairly quiet dog who only barks minimally. Roosky has been through a lot medically and has come out the other side stronger. While in rescue he was treated for pneumonia, had a dental, was neutered, and had his left eye removed due to an injury. Despite losing an eye, he navigates life just fine and doesn’t let it slow him down. He currently takes Trazodone (50 mg twice daily) and Gabapentin (25 mg twice daily) to help him stay calm and comfortable. Roosky’s ideal home would be with someone who enjoys a dog that can both play and cuddle. A calm environment with either no other dogs or gentle small dogs would help him continue to thrive.
