Bear is a 7-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who’s had a tough road and is hoping for a stable home in Wilmington, DE. Recently blind after having both eyes removed due to chronic infections, Bear braved severe skin and ear issues and significant obesity just to get here. Thanks to care and a dedicated weight-management plan, his skin is much better. Even though he can’t see, Bear navigates his environment with a stubborn curiosity, using his nose and ears to map the world and bumping into things less each week. He needs a patient adopter who understands his blindness and will keep his space calm and predictable. Large, sudden movements—or petting him without speaking first—can startle him, but if you talk as you approach, he feels safe. Despite all he’s endured, Bear loves gentle affection, listens closely to your voice, and is motivated by treats and new smells. He isn’t looking for a lapdog role, but he’ll happily lounge at your side, especially if you offer soft calm pets. For Bear, slow and steady wins the race; he shines when he knows what’s coming and has space to adjust on his terms.
