About Luna

Luna: 6 year-old spayed female black Lab, 75 lbs Background: Luna was a loved and cared for family pet. Her family was given an unexpected move-out notice by their landlord and ended up needing to move to non-pet friendly housing. Other changing life circumstances sadly made them realize that rehoming Luna was their best option. Luna is doing well in a GGLRR foster home and is eagerly awaiting her new forever family to love. Luna’s original owner says: Luna is a total love bug and a true people-dog. She is extremely affectionate, thrives on attention, and will happily follow you everywhere like your shadow. She loves people of all ages and has been around children with adult supervision, where she has done well. She is sweet, submissive, and happiest when she’s right next to her humans—whether that’s cuddling on the couch, lying at the edge of the bed, or resting in her dog bed nearby. Luna’s activity level is normal for her age. She enjoys daily walks, loves car rides, and even knows how to walk on a treadmill. She is crate trained, housebroken, knows how to use a dog door, and knows basic commands. She is very treat-motivated and eager to please, making her easy to work with. She can be a little mouthy when taking treats but is very responsive to guidance. She is not possessive of food or toys, does not dig or chew, is not an escape artist, and does not have separation anxiety. She does ok with large dogs, but can be reactive out of fear if they invade her space. She is not good with small dogs. She has a high prey drive and will chase cats and birds. Luna’s GGLRR foster says: Luna is an energetic and affectionate bundle of joy. She loves a good game of fetch or tug but is equally happy settling in beside her humans for some quality cuddle time. She's play and food motivated, loves attention, and does well on her own for 6–7 hours. She's also a big fan of car rides, ice chips, and carrots as treats! Luna is very communicative and won't be shy about letting you know what she needs. Luna is perceptive and understands when her humans are busy whether cooking or working, she'll happily entertain herself with her toys or catch up on some sleep. She is fully house trained and leash trained, though she can get a little excited on walks and may pull when something catches her eye. Luna is fine with other dogs but prefers they respect her space, especially smaller ones. Luna's Rescue Rep says: Luna is a sweet, mild-mannered, easygoing dog who communicates boundaries clearly and benefits from respectful introductions and space around other dogs. She’s more oriented towards people than other dogs, so we think she would thrive as the only dog in a home where she could be the center of attention. Luna will bring you oodles of love and joy! Luna is calm when passing by other dogs while out on walks, but she does not like other dogs getting up in her personal space or coming in too close for sniffs. We’d prefer Luna to be the only dog in the home but might consider an adoptive home experienced at managing multi-dog households with a well-mannered resident dog who will respect Luna's boundaries and a human who will actively manage the dog's interactions with the ability to give Luna her own space if needed. Medical Information: Luna is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, on preventatives, with a recent well check vet visit. We think she may have some allergies. In her original home she developed a lick granuloma (now healed) which her vet thought might be due to allergies. After moving to the GGLRR foster home, she developed some itchiness and sneezing which improved after she was given a cytopoint injection by our vet. (Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
