About Ben
Ben: From Chains to Second Chances Ben’s story isn’t easy to tell—but it’s one that deserves to be heard. He was just six months old when he landed in a small, rural shelter—feral, frightened, and misunderstood. An elderly couple tried to help him, but Ben was too much for them to manage. They didn’t have the tools, and he didn’t know how to trust. Eventually, they chained him to a tree. Not metaphorically—literally. A heavy chain locked through his collar, so tight it took tools to set him free. Ben lived like that. Alone. Tethered. Watching the world move on without him. When we met Ben, he was wild on that short chain—panicked and reactive. But within minutes of simply being walked, something shifted. He settled. We discovered he is easy to train with a simple spray water bottle - an odd tool from his past, but one that gave him a sense of familiarity and control. Within a week, Ben began to trust. And then, he began to learn. Ben is wicked smart. He picks up routines fast. He responds to structure. He thrives on consistency. He joined our pack of 31 dogs and quickly learned how to “dog”—how to play, how to rest, how to be safe. He’s a natural protector, deeply loyal, and eager to please. He’s not just trainable—he’s transformable. With the right person, Ben will become the kind of dog who watches your back, walks by your side, and sleeps at your feet. He plays with other dogs and would do best with older kids—or none at all. He needs a firm, patient heart to guide him. Someone who sees past the scars and into the soul of a dog who never gave up. Ben is not perfect. But he is ready. Ready to learn. Ready to love. Ready to finally belong. Best with bigger kids Adoption fee $150 includes transport to the midwest, northeast, or southeast.
