About Pearl

Pearl came to us as a tiny kitten. Just a baby. She has grown up in our care, always quiet and cautious, watching the world from a safe distance while other kittens came and went. She is now almost grown. And she is still waiting. But this isn't just a sob story about how she's been waiting for a home... Recently, Pearl went through something terrifying. She developed a severe eye ulcer. So severe that her entire eye was covered. We couldn't even see a pupil. Surgery to remove it seemed like the inevitable outcome. It was scary. It was heavy. It was one of those moments where you brace yourself for the worst. But we don't give up on our cats. Throwing in the towel and giving up on Pearl's eye was never an option. Our medical team decided to help her fight. And (foolishly, lovingly) Maggie stepped up to take her home to administer eye drops around the clock. Multiple times a day (that miss Pearl did NOT appreciate). Thank god Maggie is hard-headed and overfilled with determination! Because we swear her head did a 360 when you tried to administer her drops, full exorcist moments. But. We cannot blame Pearl for her theatrics. She was in pain. She was scared. She had likely lost vision in that eye almost overnight. Imagine how frightening that must have been Now here's the kicker...At her vet appointment (the one meant to schedule her enucleation) the vet looked at her and said, “Hey... you already saved this eye.” That was just after a mere nine days of drops (and a whole lot of swear words) Pearl's eye had grown new blood vessels. It was healing. Immensely healing. That felt miraculous. So, she got to keep her eye. It will always be cloudy. She may always give you a little wink. She probably has less than perfect vision in it. But it is HERS. And her little body healed it. Pearl herself? She is not feral. She is not mean. She is simply scared. She has never been the cat begging for attention. She prefers distance at first. She doesn't instantly melt into strangers' arms. But through all of her treatment, through the pain and fear, she never once lashed out in the way that a truly aggressive cat would. Maggie got 0 battle wounds from her. She was simply overwhelmed, understandably so. Pearl needs someone who understands that trust is earned, not demanded. Someone patient. Someone gentle. Someone willing to let her bloom at whatever pace necessary. Please don't look past her because her eye is cloudy. Please don't look past her because she isn't cuddly. Please don't look past her. Look at her resilience. Look at her quiet strength. Look at the second chance she fought for. Pearl deserves a home where she can finally feel safe enough to soften, one day.
