About Buford
Buford is, quite simply, a perfect cat. He talks to you. He loves you. He chooses you. He's the kind of cat that makes you stop and say, “Oh. That's a good one.” He has personality for days, affection on demand, and the confidence of a cat who knows he belongs exactly where you are. Anyone would be lucky to have him. There's just one thing. Buford is FIV and FeLV positive. Let's talk about that... FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) affects the immune system. Many FIV+ cats live long, completely normal lives with regular vet care. It is most commonly spread through deep bite wounds (not casual contact, shared bowls, or snuggling). FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) is a big more “serious” and can impact the immune system and overall health over time. It is spread through prolonged close contact (mutual grooming, shared bowls, etc.), which means FeLV+ cats should live either: * As the only cat * Or with other FeLV+ cats * BUT can also live with FeLV- cats IF they are vaccinated against it. Buford doesn't need pity. He needs a home willing to understand his diagnosis and love him anyway. He may have a shorter life than some cats, but he's already almost 6. He may need attentive veterinary care. But what he gives in return? Pure, uncomplicated love. He is not his diagnosis. He is affectionate. Vocal. Engaging. Wonderful. And someone out there is going to be very, very lucky to call him theirs.
