About Theseus

Meet Theseus. At six years old and around 65 pounds, Theseus is a large Husky/Golden/Elkhound mix with a medium tricolor coat that matches his gentle temperament. He’s neutered, fully potty and crate trained, and ready to settle into a home where he can finally relax. His roots are in Adrian, Michigan, where, through no fault of his own, Theseus lost his family when hard times hit. He arrived at rescue with little more than a collar and some quiet hope, having recently been surrendered after incidents with chickens—he absolutely cannot live with chickens or small livestock. Despite some rough patches, Theseus is everything you could want in a big, easygoing companion: he’s friendly, deeply affectionate, loyal, and usually glued to your side or curled up on a soft bed. He’ll bark a welcome-home greeting like you’ve been away for years, wake you up with paws on your face, and generally wants to be as close to his people as possible. He’s happy as a couch potato but also enjoys a yard or a daily walk, and gets along great with other dogs—he’d thrive with canine friends or as an only dog with a bit of extra time and engagement. Indoor cats are fine; he ignores them. He isn’t safe with outdoor cats, rabbits, or any small critters. Theseus knows several commands (sit, down, stay, come, no, off, leave it, drop it) and is eager to please. He’s food motivated and may check the counters or trash when no one’s looking. In foster care, he's only growled twice, both times after being grabbed abruptly off furniture—he never snapped or bit, but calmly communicated his limits. Gentle, kind leadership works wonders with him. Loud voices unsettle him. For his new family, a yard and secure fencing are bonuses, but patience, respect, and a chicken-free environment are non-negotiable. He’s good with respectful kids, though may knock over very small children by accident. Up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, on parasite prevention—with Theseus, you get a steady, warm-hearted companion, not a wild card. He’ll fit into your life as if he’s always been there. Questions about Theseus

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Theseus, being a Husky/Golden/Elkhound mix, is best suited for a home with space to roam and a family who values both relaxation and daily activity. In suburban or rural settings, especially with access to a yard, he’ll thrive.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

A yard or regular access to a spacious outdoor area helps Theseus stay content, but he isn’t high-strung or overly energetic. He enjoys walks and light play, so a fenced area or daily walks will meet his needs.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Theseus is gentle and affectionate, making him a good fit for homes with respectful children. Due to his large size, supervision is recommended around small kids, as he might accidentally knock them over.
