About Theseus
Meet Theseus At 6 years old and 65 pounds, Theseus is a handsome tricolor (brown, black, and white) Husky/Golden/Elkhound mix with a medium coat and an even bigger heart. He’s neutered, potty trained, crate trained, and ready for his fresh start. Theseus’ story is a tender one. He was born in Adrian, Michigan and was surrendered when his family faced hardships and had to make the painful decision to give one dog better care. He came to rescue with nothing but a collar — no toys, no bed, no food — just his quiet hope for something better. He had also chased and killed chickens on the property, so he absolutely cannot go to a home with chickens or small livestock. Despite it all, Theseus is a relaxed, dignified, big cuddly doofus who truly just wants to be good. Personality Theseus is friendly, affectionate, loyal, and gentle. For such a big guy, he’s incredibly cuddly. He’ll bark twice when he wants attention, and he’ll happily announce your return home like you’ve been gone for years. He loves physical contact, wants to sleep in bed with his humans (or at least on a soft dog bed nearby), and will absolutely wake you up with paws in your face if you oversleep. He’s mostly a couch potato with daytime activity. He doesn’t need intense exercise — a yard to wander or a nice daily walk will do just fine. He enjoys hanging out with other dogs and would love a canine buddy (or two… or three… he’s not picky), but he’d also be okay as an only dog with a little extra walking time. Training & Manners Theseus knows: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, No, Off, Leave It, and Drop It. He responds well to verbal correction and redirection and truly wants to please. He walks on a leash but may pull if he spots another dog he’d love to meet. He is potty trained but… secure your trash can. He’s not above a little counter investigation if given the opportunity. Other Animals & Kids • Good with other dogs • Indoor cats are fine (he ignores them) • Outdoor cats, chickens, or rabbits are not safe • Likely fine with respectful kids, though he might accidentally knock over a tiny human just from being a 65-pound goof The Honest Part Theseus has growled twice in foster care — both times when physically grabbed and pulled off furniture without much warning. He did not snap or attempt to bite. He simply communicated that he wanted patience and respect. When handled calmly and fairly, he complies beautifully. He’s a dog who responds best to gentle leadership, not force. He does not like yelling and may cower or move away if voices get loud. Home Requirements • No chickens or small livestock • A yard is a bonus but not required • Secure fencing if unsupervised (he won’t jump a fence he respects, but an open gate is an invitation) • A family that values patience and kindness Theseus is the kind of dog who settles into your life like he’s always been there. He’s not flashy. He’s not wild. He’s just a steady, affectionate, loyal companion who wants a soft place to land and people who understand that respect goes both ways. If you’re looking for a big-hearted, cuddly gentleman who will guard your yard, warm your bed, and quietly adore you — Theseus might just be your guy. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, on flea/tick and heartworm prevention and is micro chipped. His adoption fee is $350. Follow the link below for the adoption application.
