About Rio
Meet Rio, a sweet 1-year-old Chihuahua and Dachshund mix weighing in at about 19 pounds. Although he might seem reserved at first, Rio warms up quickly if you give him a little time and a treat or two. He has a habit of burrowing into blankets or peeking around corners, always keeping a curious eye out for his people. Once he’s comfortable, Rio becomes affectionate and loyal, happily shadowing you around the house or curling up nearby for a nap. Rio gets along well with both cats and other dogs, though he will need slow introductions to bigger dogs so he feels safe. Rio thrives on playful company and enjoys the company of other gentle pups. He’s house trained and crate trained—he finds comfort in his crate, so a home that keeps his crate accessible would be ideal. His leash skills are a work in progress, so patience is key; a fenced yard is important for his ongoing leash training and to help him build confidence outdoors. Given his initial timidity, Rio needs a calm, steady environment with adults or older children who understand his need for gentleness early on. He’s happiest with a consistent routine and plenty of affection. Rio is fostered in Round Rock, TX and adoptable in Texas and the Northeast. As a fun note, being born on January 24 makes Rio an Aquarius—expect a quirky, one-of-a-kind companion. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
