About Nala
Nala is a small, 4-year-old Chihuahua mix with a short coat who has been spayed and is up to date on all her shots. Her early life was mostly spent neglected in a crate, and even in her second home, she missed out on the attention and time she needed. Because of this, Nala is wary around new people and gets anxious easily. She tends to be fearful of loud noises and quick movements, so a home without young children—ideally with adults or older kids—will help her feel safer. With time and patience, Nala opens up. Once she trusts you, she’s a loving shadow, snuggling close and pawing for attention. Nala loves yard time and finds comfort in the company of other small dogs; for her, living with another small breed dog isn’t just a plus, it’s a requirement for her security and confidence. She learns from other dogs and is happiest with a canine companion. Because she gets scared and tries to escape when nervous, a strong physical fence is non-negotiable—no invisibles, tie outs, or kennels. Adopters should be ready to move slowly and help her adjust at her pace. At meet-and-greets, bring your other dogs and photos or videos of your fenced yard to help her settle in more easily. Out-of-state adoptions aren’t possible, and adoptions aren’t finalized on the same day. Nala is waiting in Fowlerville, MI, hoping for someone with the right setup to give her the security she’s never really had. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

A Chihuahua like Nala does best in a quieter home where she can build trust gradually. She thrives in a household that is patient and gentle, ideally without young children, and with another small dog for companionship.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Chihuahuas like Nala benefit from a secure, fenced yard to explore and play. While they don’t need a large yard, having a safe outdoor space is important for Nala's confidence and exercise.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Nala's breed can be good with children, but in her case, a home with older kids or adults only is best due to her nervousness and sensitivity to fast movements.
